Surgical Technology: A Rapidly Growing and Exciting Career

When it comes to the medical field, there is no shortage of exciting and growing opportunities. Anyone entering healthcare has an assortment of options to choose from. From surgeon to occupational therapy assistant, each position is rewarding as you help improve patients’ lives and opens the door to other paths. Here at Eastwick College, the career of Surgical Technology is no exception, as it is one of the highest growing and most exciting careers to enter.

An Exciting Career

One of the reasons why Surgical Technology is exciting is because of the hands-on experience you’ll get in the operating room. People in this position can expect to assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during surgery! During the surgery, technologist help the surgeon by providing him or her with the necessary instrumentation as they perform the procedure. Post-operatively, one can expect to assist with the operating room’s team moving the patient, turning over the room, and preparing for the next case.

High Growth

Like most healthcare jobs, Surgical Technology is expected to increase in demand and jobs over time. According to BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), this occupation is predicted to grow 12% by 2026! BLS also reports that 70% of Surgical Technology  had jobs in hospitals in 2016. With a high growth and employment rate, students can better expect to be working once out of school.

At Eastwick College, we offer an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology on our Ramsey, NJ campus. After 18 months (day) or 27 months (evening), graduates can become certified in CST and CRCST. Check out our program and more online!
