The heart is one of the most interesting and vital parts of the human body. It functions to pump blood to the rest of the body, serving as the “capital” of the cardiovascular system. Over the years, new advances in technology and medicine have given people a better understanding of the heart and its nuances. Today, diagnostic cardiovascular sonographers help to image, study, and perform tests on the heart and its components. Here’s how to kickstart one’s career in Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography:
Study
Prospective DCS’s have to first take part in a diploma program. Receiving a Bachelor’s Degree for this program, like Eastwick’s Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography program, can significantly increase the opportunities and experience of a student. Students learn the ins and outs of the tech involved with measuring, imaging, and assessing the heart and surrounding components like the vessels, arteries, and chambers.
Become Registered
Once students graduate, they have the opportunity to become registered in the field. Students can become certified in Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography through an examination by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Upon completion and passing, graduates are registered in the field.
Find Occupation
Once registered, prospective Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonographers can decide what kind of setting they’d like to work in. Most positions in this field will be found in a hospital setting, however, opportunities still present themselves in locations like clinics, diagnostic labs, and other private physician offices. The job itself can be daunting at times as sonographers have to image patients of all kinds, including extremely sick ones.
