Embarking on a career as an electrician offers an exciting journey into one of today’s most sought-after trades. The constant evolution of technology and the universal reliance on electricity across industries present infinite opportunities. Becoming an electrician is a path of learning, practical application, and professional certification, culminating in an enriching career full of limitless opportunities. Here is a roadmap to becoming an accomplished electrician:
Apprenticeship Training
An apprenticeship like the Electrician Apprenticeship Program at Eastwick College and the HoHoKus School of Trade sets the stage for your journey. Here, students acquaint themselves with fundamental concepts, including wiring systems, interpreting drawings and diagrams, and refining essential soft skills such as problem-solving, planning, and organization. The electrician apprenticeship program carries a one-year apprenticeship credit with the NJIEC (New Jersey Independent Electrical Contractors). Graduates will benefit from their education and training at Eastwick College and the HoHokUs School of Trade by earning one-year apprenticeship credit for only 9 months of study. An Eastwick apprenticeship takes either nine months during the day or eighteen months if pursued at night.
Attain Licensure
Graduates can progress towards attaining a license to become a journeyman in New Jersey. This stage involves submitting various registration forms, such as an Application for a Certificate of Registration and an application for examination, to the respective offices. Additionally, graduates must pass the electrical contractor exam, requiring a score of at least 70%. Upon successful completion, you can proudly step into the role of an electrical contractor.
