Library Resources

Library Goals

To provide a source of information and intellectual discovery, we maintain libraries at our Ramsey, Hackensack, Nutley, and Paterson campuses, providing well-organized, balanced, and up-to-date collections of information resources to students and faculty on-site and by remote access.

Library Objectives

The libraries are designed to meet the unique educational and curricular requirements of our students by offering books, reference and research databases, reference materials, electronic books, and current periodicals, all of which support programs offered by Eastwick Education. High speed internet access is available at all library sites.

Students can access major databases including CINAHL, Academic Search Premier, and the Gale Computer Database. CINAHL Full-Text, a premier nursing and allied health database, offers access to full-text articles from over 650 of the most respected professional journals. Academic Search Premier offers access to full-text articles from over 4600 highly regarded journals covering subjects including medical sciences, social sciences, humanities, education, general education, chemistry, and current events. Gale offers access to full-text articles on subjects including computer software and hardware, the Internet, multimedia, electronics, telecommunications, and robotics.

Students and faculty members are welcome to contact Sisalee M. Hecht, corporate director of library services, at shecht@eastwick.edu or 201-327-8877 with any questions or comments.

Library Policies and Procedures

Please note:

  • The library is a place for quiet study and research. Talking must be kept to a minimum. If students need to work on a group project, or require consulting with one another, they can inquire about the availability of a computer lab. Alternatively, students may use the computers in the upstairs student lounge.
  • Telephone usage is prohibited in the library.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the library.
  • The library is not responsible for the security of students’ personal items.
  • Library computers and printers are turned off at 8:45 pm.
  • Children are not permitted in the library.
  • Books may not be written in nor defaced in any way. In the event of damage of any kind, the last borrower will be liable for the cost of replacing the book in addition to an administrative fee.
  • Leaving the library without checking out materials is prohibited. (Reference materials and textbooks may not be borrowed or leave the library.)
  • Compliance with copyright laws and/or resource licensing agreements is the responsibility of student.

Circulation

Eastwick Education libraries are intended for use by students, faculty, and staff. Access to the lending portion of library services and resources is restricted to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff. Alumni are welcome to access on-site resources including books, print journals, databases, and on-line resources.

Vale New Jersey

Current Eastwick Education students (in good standing) and faculty may also borrow resources from academic libraries belonging to VALE New Jersey, a consortium of college and university libraries that offers a reciprocal borrowing program. Please see below for VALE instructions:

  1. Consult valenj.org/services-resources (for faculty) or valenj.org/services-resources (for undergraduate) for lists of participating libraries. (These links also include links to the individual libraries’ borrowing policies.)
  2. Ask staff at an Eastwick Education library for a VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Application Form and complete it. If you are applying for privileges at more than one library, you must fill out a form for each library. Eastwick library staff will verify your standing and sign the form.
  3. Present the signed application form along with an Eastwick Education photo ID at the participating library’s circulation desk. You will be issued borrowing privileges and/or a guest borrower card. Privileges are for one academic year and expire June 30th.
  4. To renew your borrowing privileges, you must present a new application form signed by staff at your home library.
  5. You will be responsible for complying with the lending library’s circulation policies, including loan periods, overdue fines, recalls, all replacement charges and processing fees, and for returning all borrowed items directly to the lending library.

Library Printing Policy

Effective April 29, 2013, Eastwick College initiated a print auditing system in the Josephine Huisking Memorial Library in Ramsey. Effective August 28, 2017, Eastwick College initiated a print auditing system in the library in Hackensack. This system tracks and maintains printer usage to eliminate the waste of paper and lessen the cost of ink incurred by unnecessary and excessive printing.

At the beginning of each quarter, every Eastwick College student at Ramsey and Hackensack (day, evening, full-time, and part-time) will be provided a printing account with 500 free prints.

When ready to print please follow these steps:

  1. When the print dialog box appears, log in with your first and last name as user name and student ID number for password. Example: Jane Smith (user name), 2014000000 (password).
  2. Click the “Submit” button on the Print window. Clicking “Submit” means you are confirming the deduction from your account balance and you understand that there is no refund or credit. Your transaction is complete after the click (unless there is a printer error).NOTE: ONCE A PRINT JOB HAS BEEN SENT TO THE PRINTER IT CANNOT BE STOPPED!

Cancellation of a print job is not a way to revoke the value deduction. Cancellation of a print job only means you are letting the system discard the printing for you but the print value will still be deducted. Library staff has no way to retrieve a cancelled print job or arrange credit back to your account. Library staff cannot cancel your print job for you.

It is suggested that students keep track of how many prints they use at each time of printing.

When the allotted 500 free prints have been used, a student may purchase additional prints at the library desk for the following: 100 prints: $5.00 / 250 prints: $10.00. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please contact Sisalee M. Hecht, corporate director of library services, at shecht@eastwick.edu if you have any questions about the library or library policies.
